SIGHTSEEING

Prague is a beautiful city with lots of sights to see. The obvious place to start your sightseeing would be with Prague castle. Overlooking the river Vltava and the city, the spire of St Vitus Cathedral located in the castle grounds is not only imposing but stunning to see. There is a lot to see around the grounds of Prague castle, you can easily spend the whole day looking around them and still not see everything.  The castle is steeped in history and has evolved over its many years into a mass of buildings and courtyards so is well worth taking your time to look around. Of course such a tourist attraction also has cafes, museums and gift shops around it, so there is no problem finding refreshments and memento’s to remember you trip. From the castle you get a good view over the city too and make out some other of the main sights around Prague. You get a good view of St Charles Bridge which you can walk over on your way to the old town square which is well worth a visit. A must see on old town square is the Astronomical Clock on the side of the Old Town Hall Tower which dates back to the 15th century.

From the old town square you could make your way to Wenceslas Square (Vaclavske Namesti), which despite its name is not a square but a rectangle with the National Museum at the top of it, also well worth a visit. There are also many clubs and bars around Wenceslas Square so it really comes alive at night with tourists so is not the best place to get a taxi from. There are metro stations at both the top and bottom of the square so it is much better to use these.

Of course this is just a start of things to see in and around Prague, there are many more museums to see, check Prague.cz for a list and links to museums in Prague, and the Jewish Quarter is worth seeing to. Also Prague zoo is said to be one of the best zoos in Europe, great for the kids with a special petting area for the children. It is worth checking out mapy.cz or google maps to get an idea of where things are around the city before you leave, also to make sure you hotel/apartment is in a reasonable area for getting around to. Mapy.cz is a Czech map but is easy to work out the bus, tram and train routes from, and if you put an address in the seach box it will zoom in to the location.
